Convert between metric and imperial units
We live in a world that mixes measurement systems — a recipe in cups, a running app in kilometres, a tool listed in inches, a weather forecast in Fahrenheit. This converter handles the six categories people need most: length, weight, temperature, area, volume, and speed, moving cleanly between metric and imperial units.
How to use the converter
Choose a category, enter a value, then pick the units to convert from and to. The result appears instantly. Because everything is converted through a common base unit, you can go from miles to metres to feet without losing accuracy.
Handy reference points
Some conversions are worth memorising: one inch is exactly 2.54 cm, one mile is about 1.61 km, one kilogram is about 2.2 pounds, and 100 km/h is roughly 62 mph. Temperature is the odd one out because it does not scale from zero — 0°C is 32°F, and the conversion is Fahrenheit = Celsius × 9/5 + 32.
Watch the regional differences
Not all "same-name" units are identical. A US gallon (about 3.79 litres) is smaller than a UK gallon (about 4.55 litres), and a US cup differs slightly from a metric cup. This converter uses metric cups (250 mL) and US gallons by default, so check which standard a recipe or spec sheet assumes before you rely on a conversion — particularly in cooking, where small volume errors add up.
